Tasking and SAR Data Access Release Notes - July 2025

On-Demand Imagery Product Type Selection Now Available for Tasking and Archive Orders

What’s New

Customize Imagery Product Types at Tasking Time

When submitting a new tasking request, you can now select only the imagery product types that matter to you, like SLC, GEC, SICD, CSI, or CSIDD (where applicable). Every task will still include GEO, but beyond that, you control what’s delivered. For information about the different imagery product types by collection type, please visit our Product Type Glossary.

Faster Image Availability

Because you’re no longer required to wait for all standard imagery product types to be processed, your images can become available faster. This streamlines workflows, especially for time-sensitive missions.

Organization-Specific Defaults

Organization managers can now define default imagery product types for their teams in Console or the API. Required imagery product types are always included and locked; optional ones are pre-selected but editable. This ensures consistency while allowing flexibility where it's needed.

On-Demand Processing from the Archive

Need an imagery product type that wasn’t originally included in a previous collect? Now you can request additional imagery product types from the archive on demand. There’s no need to re-task or submit a new collection request.

Why This Matters to You

This release gives you:

  • More Control – Only receive the imagery product types relevant to your use case(s).
  • Faster Turnaround – Reduce time-to-delivery by skipping unneeded processing.
  • Improved Reliability – Lower risk of delays due to processing errors with imagery product types you don’t need.
  • Simplified Tasking – No more post-processing cleanup or storage of unused formats.
  • Better Customization – Tailor your organization’s experience to match your operational needs.

How to Take Advantage

  • Set and Customize Your Team’s Defaults
Org managers can log in to define the default imagery product types for their organization. These defaults help streamline tasking by pre-selecting the most relevant imagery product types for users. However, individual users can still adjust imagery product types for each tasking request, by adding or removing types as needed (except for required types like GEO, which cannot be removed).

  • Update Existing Tasking Requests
Once this update is live, users will be able to review and modify the imagery product types included in each new or existing tasking request, up until 3 hours before the expected collection. This lets teams avoid receiving unneeded formats while ensuring they get the ones that matter.

  • Generate Additional Imagery Product Types from the Archive When Needed
If you locate an archived collect that doesn't include the imagery product type you now need, you can simply order that imagery product on demand. No re-tasking required.
