As has been reported by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (10/18/22, accessed 1/3/23) and Foreign Policy (12/5/22, accessed 1/3/23), the Chinese government has funded and participated in the significant expansion of naval facilities at the Ream Naval Base in Cambodia. This important development would make Ream China’s first overseas base in the Indo-Pacific region, greatly allowing its Navy to expand its reach.
The Spotlight imagery and Change Map in this sample reveal significant construction activity at the Ream Naval Base from 11/13/2022 to 12/18/2022. Using the “red-fled, blue-new" standard, Change Detection reveals major construction progress, vegetation clearing, tidal activity, and the movement of vessels. The image below shows the image pair and Change Map available as part of this sample set.
